Why a Classical Christian Education?

We teach to cultivate wisdom and virtue through the classical method. The classically educated Christian does not ask, “What can I do with this learning?” but “What will this learning do to me?” The ultimate end of classical Christian education is to enable the student (disciple) to better know, glorify, and enjoy God. Our enjoyment of God is derived from our ability to see Him and to see His handiwork.

We teach to nurture our student’s souls. At The Geneva School, learning is not an end in itself.  Instead, our teachers ask God to use their knowledge, character, and deeds as instruments in His hand to cultivate the students’ souls toward holiness.

Our approach is designed to cultivate lifelong learners. Unlike modern education, classical education focuses on equipping students with the essential tools of learning, carefully tailored to align with each child’s developmental stage.

We guide students through a developmental framework known as the classical Trivium, which translates to “the three ways.” This model corresponds to the natural stages of cognitive growth. The first stage, grammar, emphasizes the foundational facts and basic knowledge (the what) of each subject. The second stage, logic, centers on understanding the relationships and reasoning behind the information (the why) both within and across disciplines. The third and final stage, rhetoric, focuses on the effective expression and practical application (the how) of the knowledge acquired.

We employ the classical method because it is a time tested and proven approach to education. Regarded as the highest standard, classical education has shaped many of history’s most influential thinkers, authors, scientists, inventors, and leaders (including Augustine of Hippo, Thomas Aquinas, Galileo, Copernicus, Johann Gutenberg, Martin Luther, William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the Founding Fathers of the United States). The enduring wisdom of classical education not only fosters lifelong learners but also empowers them to apply their knowledge with purpose and impact.

What high school do Geneva students attend?

We’re thrilled to announce that students can now continue their education through high school right here at The Geneva School. In response to years of parent requests for a high school that reflects our academic rigor, commitment to virtue, and vibrant community, we launched our Upper School beginning with 9th grade. We will add a grade each year until we offer a full K–12 education.

What is homework like at TGS?

At The Geneva School, we view homework as an opportunity to reinforce learning and to cultivate habits of discipline, curiosity, and delight. Beginning in Kindergarten, students are assigned approximately 10 minutes of homework per grade level. By 6th grade, most students complete about an hour of homework each evening.

In addition, we encourage students to read widely and often, for the joy of storytelling and the growth it brings, reflecting our deep belief in the transformative power of literature.

Are there community activities for families?

Absolutely. The Geneva School values its close-knit, family-oriented culture. Throughout the year, we host events that bring our community together, including:

• A festive Trunk or Treat and Community Dinner in October

• A joyful Christmas Concert in December

• Middle and Upper School dances throughout the year

• An All-School Spring Dance

• An End-of-Year Beach Celebration for the entire school community

These gatherings are more than just events, they’re opportunities to strengthen the bonds that make our community so special.

Does TGS offer after-school care?

Yes, beginning in Fall 2025. Our after-school program will provide a safe, engaging environment from the end of the school day until 5:00 p.m., supporting families who need extended care.

What is the average class size?

Our classrooms are intentionally small to support rich discussion, personalized instruction, and meaningful relationships. The average class size at The Geneva School is 13 students.

Does The Geneva School accept transfer students?

Yes, we welcome transfer students at all grade levels. To ensure a smooth transition, we recommend reviewing the summer packets available under the “Academics” section of our website. Many of our teachers also offer tutoring, especially helpful in subjects such as Latin and Writing for students joining us in the upper grades.

Is financial aid available?

Yes. The Geneva School offers financial aid to qualifying families.

• Current families should submit applications November 15.

• Prospective families by TBD.

• Award decisions are communicated in early February.

Applications submitted after these dates are considered on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis until all available funds are distributed.
